Driver Gets Killed in Strike Near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

(MENAFN) A driver has been killed following a drone attack close to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on Monday, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In an official announcement, the UN nuclear oversight body said it was informed by the facility that a drone strike earlier that morning resulted in the death of a driver working at the plant’s transport workshop, located near the site of the nuclear station.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi stressed that "strikes on or near nuclear power plants can endanger nuclear safety and must not take place. The IAEA’s team on the site will look into the incident and continue to monitor the situation.”

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, situated in southern Ukraine and seized by Russia in the early phase of the conflict, has consistently remained a major point of global concern regarding nuclear safety risks.
